population pyramids
Today in class we talked about population pyramids and how they are set up. We use them to analyze growth of the fertility, mortality, and migration in cities. They are set up according to the stats for that area it focuses on. One side of the chart are men and one side of the chart are women. I noticed that the amount of women in the old age section is relatively larger then the men. There are three shapes of the charts. The three are the x-mas tree, the box, and the cup. The x-mas tree represents developing nations. They have slow growth rates and a short life expectancy. The box shape represents a developed nation with a slow birthrate. They have low infant mortality, slow population growth, and a long life expectancy. Last, the cup shape is a developed nation with a negative growth rate. It has a low brith rate, a shrinking population, and a long life expectancy.

class
Today in class we discussed our homework and we went into detail about millennials and how they outnumber the baby boomers. We talked about how most people do not aim for the baby boomers when trying to sell things and have them be bought at a large amount. They mainly focus on people in their 30s or 40s. Also, that some islands can hide your money so that you can get out of paying taxes. You do this if your rich. This helps the small islands make prophet. The government has not found a good solution fir this problem. It is a big issue because they should be paying their taxes. We do, so they should have to also. The money would go to good causes like helping communities. We started discussing the smaller countries and how the death rate is not as large. Also, how we are one of the top countries for having large obesity rates. We have so many fast food places and eat larger amounts.

CIA World Fact-book
1. The first thing is that the United States has a population of 326,625,791 and it is the third most populated country in the whole world! This was pretty fascinating to me just because of our ranking. I knew that the United States was large and had a lot pf people, but not that many. This relates to the work we are doing in class because in class we were discussing the populations of countries and the importance of it.
2. The second thing that I found interesting was the fact that China is the most populated country in the whole world. This was surprising just because number 1 in the whole world is A LOT of people and I did not know that had so many people. This relates to class because, once again, the population is a pain topic of conversation.
3. Next is the migration rate of Jamaica is -4.3/1,000. I wanted to know what this was because I will be traveling there soon and I wanted to know how many people actually move there. Jamaica is not a very big place so I would not imagine this number would we too long, but not that small either. This relates to class because we were discussing the topic of migration and the difference between migration, immigration, and emigration.
4. Ireland's population is 5,011,102. I expected it to be a lot more because of the popularity of the country. although it is widely known, more people just visit and don't actually live there. This makes sense because of the size and climate of the island. This relates to what we are talking about in class because we were talking about the sizes of countries and how the climate and such affects the population.
5. Aruba is the 189th biggest country in the world. I wanted to look this country because it is a very popular vacation spot and I did not know what the actual population was. I expected it to be small and it was. This is a very small country and it is also poor so not many people would actually want to live there with their families. This relates to what we are doing in class because we were talking about how a country being poor will affect the number of people moving there.

Measuring Population
The things that we talked about in class today became a bit confusing, but I got it in the end. we discussed the Crude Birth rate and the Crude Death rate. They differ in many ways, bu the main way is that they vary in country. The Rate of Natural Increase (RNI) is produced by subtracting the death rate from the birthrate. This is crazy to see because it leaves you with a small number left. There are more births then deaths and that is why it ends up like this for the RNI. This gives us the annual natural growth rate in percentage form for a country or region. You also can do this with immigration. This is called the Net Migration Rate. It is the difference between the number of persons entering and leaving a country during the year. In class, this brought up the topic of how bad the ways of traveling are for people in other countries who are forced to leave their country. An excess of persons entering the country is Net Immigration. The excess of persons leaving the country is called Net Emigration.

Population and Settlement
Today in class we talked about the life and death ratio on the globe. It was fascinating to hear the truth about how many people are born and die in the span of less than one minute. I would expect it to be fast, but not that fast! There are 7.5 billion people on the globe today which is crazy in itself too. The population is increasing by 73 million a year! All of those people are born in one year. I personally thought it was crazy that one year I was a part of that insanely large number. To think that I am so irrelevant and so important at the same time is crazy. 90% of the world's population growth takes place in very poor, not yet developed, countries. Mainly becuase of how they don't have much else to rely on except for having children and staying alive. It is a totally different place out there and I cant imagine what it would be like to be one of them.

Test
Today in Human Geo we took a test. The test was not very hard, but I was one of the last ones to finish. Luckily, I studied very hard last night and I hope it went well. The main thing that I had trouble with was the questions about the time zone maps. The hard thing was finding it on the map itself. I had two versions to look at and that helped me. Also some of the maps from before had a lot of good information on it that helped me do many of the questions. There was not one question that I got too stuck on, but the test was not easy at the same time. To help me study, I created flash cards on index cards. This studying technique always helps when it comes to tests. After the test we were allowed to go onto our computers and do our blog.

Game in class
Demitree was back in school today and taught most of the class. He took control and went right up to the front of the room and taught all of us. He started asking questions and calling on us. Towards the beginning of class, he decided to have us all play a game to help us prepare for the test on Friday. At first he seemed like he was confused with what he was doing, but after a few minutes it seemed like he was in his natural habitat. He Took the bell to the back of the room to help with the game. He separated us into sections and had us come up with team captains. The team captains would pick who went up to the board. The person who was picked would race the other person to write the answer down on the board. If you won Demitree would ring the bell to make it official. It went well with the exception of a few rowdy rounds. In the end, the last two tied and the other team ended up winning.

Review for test
Today in Human Geography, we reviewed for the test on Friday. We started off by going over the time zones and where to find this if we did not know. There are a few ways to find the time zone of a country or any location of that matter. The best was to find this out is by using the time zone map that was given to us to fill out. The map has sections and at the Botton of these sections are clocks that tell you that the time zone is for the location you are looking for. To do this you need to know where the location is on the map. Then, you look towards the bottom and find the time. This map is very useful for someone with this task. In class, I made sure to write everything that we were going over in class because if I didn't, I would forget. This is something that everyone should do when reviewing for a test.

Review In Class
Today in Human Geo we reviewed everything that we have learned this year for a test in the next week or two. We went over everything, but here are some of the main pints we went over. The first one was GPS'. GPS stands for Global Positioning System and had a few different uses that would be possible. But before we go over that, we needed to know that there are at least 4 satellites and that there are tracking stations on earth. The GPS' are used for mainly good things, but sometimes they are used for bad things and by bad people. We also went over the different types of regions which are Formal, Functional, and Vernacular regions. The Formal Region is an area in which everyone shares a common characteristic. A Functional Region is an area focused on a vocal point. A Vernacular Region is an area that is a part of people's identity. We went over many more topics, but these were the main ones I remember.

Regions
There are three types of regions. The first one is a formal region, this is when an area In which everyone shares one or more common characteristics. Take for example languages, everyone would speak the same language. The second on is a functional region. This is a region that is focused around one vocal point. An example for this is the New York Times. Also when regions are known for a certain crop, this is the same idea. The last region is a Vernacular region, this is an area in which all of the population believe that the area shaped who they are today such as distinct environmental, social, and political differences. A good example for this is a republican or democratic state. Another example is when most of the population has an accent.

New teacher
Today's class started just like any other class. We started taking notes and one student said that they wanted Mr. Schick to wait until we took all of our notes to start lecturing. We did this, but one student wanted to teach himself. So, He went up there all by himself and did as he was told. He started okay, but soon it all went downhill and he did not get it all right. After he sat back down, Mr. Schick asked if anyone else wanted to take his place and another boy came up. We all thought he would do bad, but he did amazing! He went up there and asked for a pinter like he knew what he was doing. He started on a good note and ended on a good note. He could answer all of our questions and explained everything very well. He gave us chances to write and listen. When he sat back down we all clapped.

Gps
Today in class we discussed the possibility of the GPS being used for bad things. I already knew that the electronics could be used by the government to watch and track you. It might not even be the government, it might be bad people who have bad intentions for us. I believe that these things like GPS and Amazon Alexa's are used for bad things. I do own many amazon Alexa's, but I take procauson. My Alexa Spot has a camera on it which I cover with a black piece of tape. I also cover most of my cameras with tape. I once watched an episode of Criminal Minds where this situation happened and it scared me. I know that these things can be used for good things, but there is always a chance. Another thing that we discussed was the History thing where you give them your DNA and they match it to your ancestors. This is pretty cool, but I do not trust this either.
