Measuring Population
The things that we talked about in class today became a bit confusing, but I got it in the end. we discussed the Crude Birth rate and the Crude Death rate. They differ in many ways, bu the main way is that they vary in country. The Rate of Natural Increase (RNI) is produced by subtracting the death rate from the birthrate. This is crazy to see because it leaves you with a small number left. There are more births then deaths and that is why it ends up like this for the RNI. This gives us the annual natural growth rate in percentage form for a country or region. You also can do this with immigration. This is called the Net Migration Rate. It is the difference between the number of persons entering and leaving a country during the year. In class, this brought up the topic of how bad the ways of traveling are for people in other countries who are forced to leave their country. An excess of persons entering the country is Net Immigration. The excess of persons leaving the country is called Net Emigration.
