powerpoint
Today in human geography class on December 6th, we started to take notes off the powerpoint and learned about how countries have adopted selective immigration policies passing the act Quota Act in 1921 and the national Orgins Act in 1924 by the U.S congress marked the end of unrestricted immigration to the united States. More seek admission to the U.S than Is permitted by the Quotas, thus preferences are shown toward family reunions which is about 3/4 of immigrants, skilled workers is about 1/4 immigrants and diversity- a few immigrants admitted, because their sending country historically has sent very few migrants. Unauthorized immigrants are those who enter a country without proper documents. Source country is 58% emigrate from Mexico, children- 11.2 million unauthorized immigrants nearly 1 million are children, unauthorized immigrants have given birth to about 4.5 million. In 2010 35% of adults had been in the U.S for more then 15 years illegally.

Why Do Migrants Face Challenges
Today in class we took notes on the packet that we got on migration. The packet was mainly about Mexico and the United States. The big topic was crossing the boarder because it is either done legally or illegally and most migrants try to cross it illegally because of their living conditions. In the packet there were many definitions about migration and boarder safety. This is another big issue with the topic, boarder safety. The Military and National Guard work very hard to keep our boarder states safe, but it does not always end pretty. The other topic was Ellis Island. This was a place that immigrants would stay until they were accepted into the country. Once you were accepted, you would be put on a ferry to New York. It is no longer in use, so in 1965 they made it into a museum for immigration. It is still open to this day.

podcast
Today in Human Geo, we listened to the rest of the podcast in class and then talked about our opinions of the podcast afterwards. In my opinion, I thought that the podcast was somewhat bias against Trump because it made him seem like he was an extremely bad person for not having as many exceptions for immigrants trying to apply for asylums in order to enter the United States. If anything, I think the law that Trump has made about accepting only around 50 people each day for court dates to receive an asylum is actually better for the United States. I believe this because some of these people entering the United States might not begin a job right away and the problem they had in their original country might be still prevalent in the US. I also think that this could possibly lower the crime rates or keep them the same. For example, if we allowed just anyone to enter the US, crime would increase greatly in my opinion. Even though people may not agree with everything Trump does or says, I think his law about asylums can most likely result in improving the US.
