To be honest, I have never read anything like this passage. The utter rawness and meaning that this essay portrays is unbelievable. You can tell that it was written about one hundred years ago by the way Elbert Hubbard explained things. It was a difficult read for sure! When I first started to read this passage I did not know what to expect wording wise. I've forgotten what it was like to read something so old. Over all the main meaning of it was that the "bosses" should get more respect and pity than the poor and homeless. I agree with Elbert on some level, but not very much. This lesson most defiantly applies to high schoolers now a days because of the way we think. The part that I thought related to us the most was the part that said how the employees would automatically ask stupid questions about the task. Most teens do this in their everyday lives. I know that I have done this more than once! Also the part that says that the employees go to each other for help applies to us. The "average" teen engages in all of the things listed. Like I stated before, I partially agree with what Elbert is trying to say. In the end, I do feel more sympathy for the poor and the lower class. It may seen like they do not work hard, but they most likely do. You never know a person's past.
I really like your analysis of this essay, Autumn. You know how to do a close reading, which is going to help you a lot throughout high school.
