religions test
I was very set on getting a good grade in the test we took today and I think I did very well. I made flashcards last night to help me and they were color coded. This helped me remember most of the differences in the religions. I thought that the test was laid out very well and in a productive way. It was actually easier than I thought it was going to be. I would recommend that you do it the same way next time.

5 religions
Christianity was founded by Jesus Christ. It has proximately 2.2 billion adherents and are mainly located in Europe, the Americas, and Southern Africa. There are many denominations and most originate with Abraham. The denominations are Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox, Protestants, which have many branches which I will not list. The main focus is on their holy book, the Bible. They believe that Jesus is both human and Devine. Also, that Jesus is the son of God. Their clergy is the pope if the head of the Catholic Church and priests are local authority.
Islam's founder is Muhammad who was alive in 570-632 AD. You would call them Muslims and they have about 1.5 billion adherents and are the second largest religion in the world. They are based out of Indonesia, Middle East, and North Africa. They only have two major denominations which are the Sunnis and the Shiites. The Sunnis and the Shiites have been in many revolutionary wars in the past and they have lasted a very long time. Their holy book is the Qur'an. their beliefs are monotheistic and abrahamic. They have the five pillars which are testimony, prayer, alms-giving, fasting, and pilgrimage their god is called Allah.
Hindus are mainly in the location of India and Nepal. With a following of 1.1 billion people.
Their holy book is the Vedas. The thing that separates Hinduism from any other religion is the fact that Hindus believe it’s more of a lifestyle rather than a religion. They believe in reincarnation and did not have a distinct founder. Although Hinduism is the 3rdlargest religion most followers see it as a lifestyle and a way to live life rather than a belief.
Buddhist are located in Southeast Asia, china, Nepal and japan. There’s around 1.2 million Buddhist in the U.S. They believe in the Noble Truths. Which starts off with there is suffering. The second noble truth is attachment to desire is origin of suffering. The third one is there is a cessation of suffering, and lastly, eight hold paths will lead to the cessation of suffering. The founder Siddhartha Gautama is also known as the Buddha.
Jews are mainly located in Israel and U.S. Israel is dedicated for Jews. Judaism only has 14-18 million adherents. This is because of tragic events such as the Holocaust. Hitler wanted to kill every single Jew and he was very close to succeeding. Their founder is Abraham and their holy book is the Torah. Jews mainly believe God is one and concerned with the actions of human kind- ethical monotheism.

One was written very long ago and one was more recent. they are very is similar because they are both about God. We only had 4 minutes to answer all of the questions and only could get 3 wrong.

Packet
Today in class we went over our packet a bit more. Roman Catholic is still Christianity, but it has a main Pope who is above all. They have the Orthodox branch and the Protestant branch. Next, we talked about Islam. They have the five pillars which are Shahadah, Salat, Zakat, Sawam of Ramadan, and Haij. All three religions consider Abraham to be one of their dependents. They believe that the founder of the religion was Mahammad who was born in about 570. They have 2 branches which are Shite and Sunni. Mahammad had no surviving son to be his successor. Next was Buddhism which has the four noble truths. they live by these rules to be able to one day reach Nirvana.

highlight
Today in Human Geography with Mr.Schick we talked the hole class based on a packet he gave us a couple days ago. Everything we talked about was in the power point we went over on religions, he did this so we had another reference to study but the thing is that the power point was made based on the packet from the book so all the important things we need to know are in the power point. So in that retrospect it made class very boring, for we had learned everything and it was just review, but i appreciated the class a lot. For i have been having a long day and it was nice to be able to enjoy a slowed down laid back class for review. I payed attention in the class because we would underline the important info.

Questions
There are four basic Vedic texts in use by Hindus. The first one is Rigveda which is one of the oldest texts in the Veda. It contains 1,028 hymns and is structured on clear principles. It contains a small book in the beginning that recognizes Agni, Indra, Somi, and other gods. It also contains many questions about the universe and gods. The second one is Yajurveda which contains 1,875 verses. It is mainly composed of verses about worship rituals. The third is Samaveda which contains 1,549 verses. It is the "Veda of Chants" and contains melodies and chants either in symbolic or numerical form. The melodies are the worlds most ancient surviving ones. The fourth is Athavaveda which contains 730 hymns and the text is about a "popular religion". It contains information on magic and daily rituals for initation Into learning marriage and funerals.
Martin Luther objected to indulgences because He witnessed people giving money to the church because it would "reduce their punishment". It was clear to him that this was wrong and the church just wanted to get money from it. My research led me to believe that the Catholic Church was not being very Christian like when they did this because it was agenst what Jesus wanted.
The Haji is the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca that takes place in the last month of the year. It is expected of all Muslims to go on the pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime.
